The House

Some useful tips about the house

Wood burner

With the wood burner going for long periods without use the flue can get cold so to get a good updraft we recommend letting the kindling burn for few minutes before adding any larger pieces of wood. This means there should be a good updraft

Recommended lighting process

  1. Pull both of the bottom vents and move the central one to the right

  2. Light your kindling and leave the door slightly ajar until it gets going the close the door

  3. After a few minutes, once the flue has warmed and you're getting a good updraft, add your wood

  4. Once the wood caught on fire close the two lower vents and control the burn with the central vent

  5. Ideally you have this vent as far to the left as possible

The Heating and Boiler

Sometimes the boiler de-pressures while the house isn't in use.

To repressure it turn the two circled valves so they are vertical

You should then see the pressure on the screen increase

When it reaches 1.0 turn them back to horizontal

Run the hot tap to see if the boiler turns on, if it doesn't then fully reset the boiler by holding down the power button until it's off, wait for a few seconds then turn back on and try the hot tap. If it still doesn't work then try turning it off at the wall and repeating

The Hive thermostat is not connected to the internet. But acts like a normal thermostat. It'll be on frost protect when you arrive, please can you put it back on frost protect when you leave.

The bathroom has underfloor heating, if you turn this on when you arrive it should turn on and off on a timer. Please turn off when you leave

Sheets and laundry

The bedsheets on the bed will need changing before sleeping in them. There are spare sheets in the cubby in the front bedroom

On the top floor there are drying racks and a dehumidifier which will speed up the drying process. Works best when the door is closed, it has a laundry setting, please empty it after each use and make sure it's off when you aren't in the house and unplugged when you leave.
